SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless Headset Review

Review Forge

This is a review of SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless - one of the best headsets for gamers right now. Read this article till the end to find out why I am absolutely satisfied with this product and what pros and cons it has. I have also uncovered details about Xbox One chat support. Hope my review will help you to make that purchase decision. If you wish to check the price you can use my affiliate link.

Appearance

The headset itself looks very good. It has a metal band at the top wrapped with soft material to protect your head. But your head will most likely not be able to touch it because there is a special stretching band which doesn’t allow the metal band to come too close to the head. This thing is very comfortable.

SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless Headset

The build quality is great. The metal band is super flexible. The materials look expensive. The headset doesn’t squeak while you use it and for me, this is a clear indicator of high quality.

The weight is 375 grams which is an average value. It’s not lighter or heavier than any other model on the market. Of course, it’s a little bit heavier than SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wired.

Controls

As the headset is wireless all the important controls are located on ear cups. Left ear cup has volume wheel which allows changing volume fast, microphone button and other ports. Of course, the wireless model has an extra Micro USB port for charging.

All the buttons are very premium feeling and are responsive. The position of the controls is perfect and you will not have to move your hand searching for the button you need. Everything is made for a great gaming experience.

Features

  • Dual Wireless: 2.4G lossless + Bluetooth
  • Industry-leading hi-res capable speaker drivers
  • Lightweight aluminum alloy and steel construction
  • Swappable dual-battery system

The sound of the headphones is clear and detailed. The ear cups are comfortable and are great for long gaming sessions.  When you put the headset for the first time you may feel that the music sounds flat. That’s not a problem. All you need to fix this is to customize the equalizer settings at your base transmitter. I highly recommend doing it before you continue. The default settings are not so good, but if you customize the equalizer the sound will become deeper and even more detailed.

The microphone is great. You can change its position and adjust it according to your personal desire. The mic doesn’t change your voice too much and your friends will be able to hear a very clear sound. The overall quality of the mic is very good. In my opinion, it is one of the best microphones I have seen on headsets. You can also change the volume of the microphone to make it louder or quieter using the base.

There is another feature you may find useful: SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless can be paired with another headset of any manufacturer if it has 3.5 mm input. There is a special connector which allows you to connect your headphones with the headphones of your friend and he will be able to listen to the same sound. Great feature, but the connector cable is short. It will be enough only if your friend is sitting near you. But anyway this feature is cool.

This headset can be used with a smartphone. The Bluetooth signal is rather good and the distance can reach up to 50 feet before the headset starts to lose the signal. So you can listen to the music from your smartphone without any extra stuff.

Xbox Issues

Many people are asking if Arctis Pro Wireless has Xbox support. The general answer is NO, it’s not supported fully. Right now it fully supports only PC and PS4. Xbox doesn’t support the chat feature. That’s because Microsoft forces manufacturers to pay extra money for using its chipset for chat functionality over USB. SteelSeries didn’t want to pay because this will increase the final cost of the product.

But you can run the chat if you wish on the Xbox One. You will need to connect via Bluetooth to your smartphone for Discord, Mumble, or the new Xbox Chat Mobile applications on iOS and Android. This will give you wireless chat.

You can also use 3.5 mm cable to connect the headset with Xbox One directly (no transmitter is required). In this case, you will not need a smartphone, but you will have to sacrifice wireless GameDAC for chat features.

Battery and Charging

The battery life is up to 10 hours. There is a very good feature I absolutely like: the battery can be replaced pretty fast. Yes, guys, it is replaceable. You need to open the cover of the right cup and the battery is there. It’s very similar to the batteries of the smartphones. The retail package contains 2 batteries so you will always have one battery for swapping.

With the OLED Transmitter base station (included) the process becomes even more comfortable. You can insert the remaining battery into the transmitter and it will be charging there. When your first battery dies you just take the second from the transmitter and put the dead one into it for charging. So you can swap batteries many times without having to wait. That’s a very good feature that allows your headphones to be always on.

What’s missing?

  • Full Xbox support. It’s sad that this amazing product doesn’t have full Xbox support.
  • The RGB lightning of Arctis Pro wired headset looks amazing. It would be great if the wireless model also has something similar. But in general this feature is not so necessary.

Conclusion

Right now, SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless is one of the best headsets you can find for gaming, watching movies and listening to music. Many reviewers say it’s much better than Astro A50 or Arctis 7. It sounds better, it has more features and if you really want a very good and quality sound I absolutely recommend Arctis Pro. The manufacturer did a very good job.
