Garmin Forerunner 645 Music Hands On Review

Review Forge

If you like running and looking for a running watch Garmin Forerunner 645 Music is probably what you need. This hands-on review will tell you why this product is worth your attention.

The first thing I want to talk about is the appearance. The model looks pretty nice! Round shape and 5 buttons is a classic solution. Why this model has buttons? Because touchscreen is not very comfortable to use while running. Buttons are much more comfortable. You can use them for managing your music and for other actions while you move.

Garmin Chroma Display is easy to read — even in direct sunlight — and housed under chemically strengthened glass.

The watch has both GPS and GLONASS support, heart rate monitor, barometric altimeter, and the option of interchangeable bands which allows to change bands easy.

Music is With You – No Phone or Player is Required

Now you don’t need a separate player to listen to your favorite music while running. The watch has built-in memory storage allowing to store up to 500 songs and listen to them through Bluetooth headphones. All you need to do is to upload the music from your computer and then build a playlist. It’s possible to sync playlist from select music streaming services to your watch.

Pay attention: headphones are not included! You will need to buy a pair of Bluetooth headphones separately!

You should also keep in mind that right now Garmin Forerunner 645 Music allows downloading offline playlists from Deezer (with Deezer + subscription). Unfortunately, there is no Spotify support. I don’t know why the manufacturer didn’t include an option to download offline playlists from Spotify.

Leave Your Wallet at Home

Well, some people may think that this music storage is a great feature but they will still have to take smartphone or wallet because they use it for payments. Fortunately, you may leave smartphone or wallet at home — Garmin Pay will allow you to pay for purchases with your watch. The system is simple: use the watch anywhere you can tap your card to pay.

Waterproof IP ratings

Many customers ask about if this watch is good for swimming. What IP rating do they have? Are they waterproof? The short answer is yes, but not for all types of swimming. The Forerunner 645M has a water rating of 5ATM. You can find more about this rating at the official website www.garmin.com/waterrating.  645M is good for Splashes, Rain or snow, Showering, Swimming, Diving into the water, Snorkeling. But it’s not recommended to use them for serious water sports like Scuba Diving or High-speed watersports.

As you see this watch are waterproof in general and are good for most customers’ water activities. If you are not a pro diver you will be happy with the purchase.

Battery Life

Manufacturer reports that the watch stay live up to 7 days in smartwatch mode and 5 hours in GPS mode with music playback. This is pretty nice. Taking into account that your average training session will last for about 1 hour you will be able to use the watch for several workout routines.
